MOSE ALLISON

Mose Allison est un pianiste et chanteur de jazz américain né le 11 novembre 1927 dans le Mississippi. C’est dès l’âge de cinq qu’il se découvre un don pour la musique, notamment à travers le piano via lequel il reproduit les morceaux qu’il entend dans les juke box. Au lycée, il écoute principalement du jazz et des artistes comme Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong et Nat King Cole. En 1956, après une licence et un passage à l’armée, il s’installe à New-York où la scène jazz est en pleine expansion. Il décroche un contrat chez Prestige Records et son premier album Back Country Suite l’amène à travailler avec de nombreux jazzmen dont Stan Getz, Al Cohn et Zoot Sims. Plus tard, il forme son propre trio avec qui il enregistre plusieurs albums et qui l’accompagne sur scène. Ses morceaux ont été repris par The Clash et Van Morrison entres autres. Au début des années 2000, Mose Allison a sorti deux albums live sur le prestigieux label Blue Note.
